Privacy Policy and Driver Terms & Conditions -Yasu (Driver App)
1. Scope of the Policy
This document applies to all drivers using the Yasu Express Driver App and participating in delivery services provided through the Yasu Express platform in Ethiopia. It defines the rights, responsibilities, obligations, and operational rules governing driver participation on the platform.
2. Definitions
Yasu Express: A last-mile delivery platform operating in Ethiopia that connects sellers, customers, and independent drivers for delivery services.
Platform: The Yasu Express mobile application used to manage delivery operations.
Customer (Seller): A business (D2C or SME) that creates delivery requests through the platform.
Driver: An independent contractor using a motorcycle to complete deliveries via the platform.
Package: Goods handed over by a seller for delivery to a customer.
Yasu Mileage: A prepaid wallet system used exclusively for delivery payments. Sellers must top up their Yasu Mileage before placing orders.
Pickup: The stage where the driver collects the package from the seller.
Drop-off: The stage where the driver delivers the package to the recipient and completes the order.
A → B Accountability: Full driver responsibility from pickup (A) to delivery completion (B).
Excluded Packages: Items restricted due to legal, safety, or operational limitations.
Suspended Driver: A driver whose account is temporarily or permanently restricted from using the platform.
3. Platform Model & Operating Principles
Yasu Express is a delivery-only, asset-light logistics platform.
What Yasu Express is NOT:
A cash-on-delivery (COD) or payment collection service
A marketplace platform
A fleet owner or employer
Operating Principles:
Drivers are expected to follow the Yasu service standards based on:
Reliability: Completing deliveries as assigned
Professionalism: Respectful communication with all stakeholders
Accountability: Full responsibility from pickup to delivery
4. Privacy Policy
Yasu Express is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of drivers using the platform. This section explains how we collect, use, store, share, and protect driver information in connection with the Yasu Express Driver App.
4.1 Information We Collect
We may collect the following types of information:
Personal Information
Full name
Phone number
Email address (if provided)
Address
National ID (Fayda or equivalent)
Driving license information
Vehicle registration details
Movement permit information (where applicable)
Delivery & Transaction Information
Delivery history
Order acceptance and completion records
Earnings and payment records
Performance metrics and ratings
Delivery photos and proof-of-delivery records
Technical & Usage Data
Device information (model, operating system, app version)
App usage behavior and interaction logs
IP address
System diagnostics and error logs
Location Data
Precise location data is collected only while the App is in active foreground use or when the driver is running an active "Go Online" shift through our foreground service notification, for the purpose of coordinating order distribution and dispatch operations.
4.2 How We Use Information
We use collected data to:
Provide and operate delivery services
Assign and manage delivery orders
Process driver earnings and settlements
Monitor delivery performance and safety
Verify driver identity and vehicle compliance
Improve platform performance and reliability
Prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations
Comply with legal and regulatory obligations
4.3 Data Sharing
We do not sell driver personal data. We may share information only with:
Sellers and customers when necessary to fulfill deliveries
Authorized internal teams for operational purposes
Payment service providers and financial partners
Technical service providers supporting platform operations
Legal or regulatory authorities when required by law
All third parties are required to maintain strict confidentiality and appropriate data protection standards.
4.4 App Permissions & System Capabilities
To enable core delivery operations, the App requires access to certain device permissions and system capabilities. These are used strictly for operational, safety, and service functionality purposes:
Location Permissions (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION):
Used to collect precise location data only when the driver is actively online (“Go Online” mode) via a foreground service. This is necessary for order assignment, dispatch operations, route optimization, and real-time delivery tracking for sellers and customers.Camera Permission (CAMERA):
Used exclusively for capturing delivery proof, package photos at pickup and drop-off, identity verification (where required), and customer support-related submissions.Notification Permission (POST_NOTIFICATIONS):
Used to deliver time-sensitive order offers, dispatch updates, and system alerts to ensure drivers do not miss active delivery opportunities.System Overlay Permission (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW):Used to display interactive dispatch notifications and quick action controls (e.g., accept/reject orders) while drivers use external navigation apps. This feature operates locally on the device and does not access, collect, or transmit data from other applications.
Storage Access (FileProvider / Secure Local Storage):
Used to securely store and manage delivery images and application logs. On older Android versions, limited storage access may be requested for compatibility purposes.
Certain App features of the App may not function properly, and order acceptance may be restricted if required permissions are denied or disabled.
4.5 Account and Data Deletion
Drivers may request deletion of their account and associated personal data through the Profile section of the App or by contacting Yasu Express through official support channels.
Upon receipt of a valid deletion request, Yasu Express will delete or irreversibly anonymize personal data where reasonably practicable and in accordance with applicable laws.
However, certain limited information may be retained where required or permitted by law for the following purposes:
Legal and Regulatory Compliance – To comply with applicable laws, regulations, court orders, governmental requests, or record-retention obligations.
Financial, Tax, and Accounting Requirements – To satisfy tax, audit, accounting, and financial reporting obligations.
Security and Fraud Prevention – To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, security incidents, misuse of the Platform, or unauthorized activities.
Dispute Resolution and Legal Claims – To establish, exercise, or defend legal rights, resolve disputes, and comply with legal proceedings.
Any retained information will be securely stored and retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill the applicable legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purpose.
4.6 Third-Party Services
Yasu Express utilizes trusted third-party service providers, including Google services and other technology partners, to support platform operations.
These services may include:
Mapping and navigation services for route guidance, location tracking, and delivery operations.
Analytics services to monitor App performance, improve user experience, analyze usage trends, and maintain platform reliability.
Such third-party providers may process limited information on behalf of Yasu Express in accordance with their own privacy policies and applicable data protection requirements.
4.7 Driver Rights
Subject to applicable laws, drivers may:
Request access to their personal information
Request correction of inaccurate information
Request deletion of data where legally permitted
Request clarification regarding data usage
Requests may be submitted through official Yasu Express support channels.
5. Independent Contractor Relationship
Drivers operate as independent contractors, not employees or agents of Yasu Express.
Drivers are responsible for all operational costs, including fuel, maintenance, data, and insurance.
Drivers may accept or reject delivery requests at their discretion.
Drivers are not required to work exclusively with Yasu Express.
6. Mandatory Credentials & Vehicle Compliance
To operate on the platform, drivers must maintain valid documents, including:
National ID (Fayda or equivalent)
Valid motorcycle driving license
Motorcycle digital registration ID
Approved commercial plate (Code 03)
Failure to maintain valid documentation may result in suspension or deactivation.
7. Delivery Responsibility (A → B Accountability)
Drivers are fully responsible for packages from pickup to delivery completion.
Requirements:
Pickup confirmation photo
Drop-off delivery photo
Proof of handover from the seller
Responsibility Rules:
Drivers are liable for loss, damage, or negligence
All delivery steps must be followed without exception
Non-compliance may result in penalties or suspension
8. Payments, Commissions & Cancellations
Drivers are paid only for completed deliveries
Yasu Express earns a commission per delivery
Earnings breakdown is shown before order acceptance
Withdrawals follow platform-defined schedules
Cancellation or arrival compensation may apply based on policy
Drivers are responsible for all operational costs
9. Prohibited Conduct & Performance Standards
Drivers must NOT:
Transport illegal or prohibited goods
Manipulate GPS or falsify delivery proof
Misuse customer or platform data
Violate delivery procedures or A → B accountability
Engage in behavior that violates platform standards
Violations may result in suspension or termination.
10. Insurance & Indemnity
Drivers must maintain valid third-party insurance as required by law
Drivers are fully responsible for any accident, loss, or damage during service
Drivers agree to indemnify Yasu Express against legal claims arising from their actions
11. Data Privacy & Platform Use
Drivers consent to the collection of GPS, delivery logs, and usage data
Customer data may only be used for delivery purposes
Any misuse of data is strictly prohibited
12. Platform Rights
Yasu Express may update or modify the platform at any time
Access may be restricted for safety, compliance, or operational reasons
Platform decisions regarding operations and disputes are final
13. Termination & Suspension
Accounts may be suspended or terminated due to:
Fraud or misconduct
Safety violations
Illegal activities
Repeated performance failures
Policy breaches
Serious violations may result in immediate termination.
14. Governing Law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
Any disputes shall be resolved by the competent courts of Addis Ababa.
